In 2009, I took part in an art residency with Dubai-based studio JamJar for their Art Oasis group exhibition. The residency involved attending a series of panelled conversations about sustainability in art, culminating with an exhibition held in Wafi Centre.
My work, comprised mostly of charcoal and dried grass, is surrounded by a background of pointedly non-sustainable, and arguably poisonous fluorescent paint. When illuminated with timed UV lighting, the fluorescent paint glowed and revealed otherwise hidden writing.
